Artwork > Starcross'd Lovers

The idea for Starcross'd Lovers germinated after the emergency landing of U.S. Airways flight 1549 in the Hudson River in January of 2009. I allowed myself to wonder whether there were some kind of strange attraction that a jetliner might engender in a bird -- allowing myself to wonder whether the plane was the object of these geese' powerful romantic attraction.

Eventually the work evolved to become a tragic romance between these two gorgeous flying creatures. The elegant grace of the goose, meeting the sharp, ferocious power (and grace) of the fighter jet. I enjoy imagining a goose falling hopelessly in love with an fighter jet. And then what? It's Shakespearean in its ironic grandeur, and in its sublime, heartbreaking tragedy.

We meet these airborne lovers frozen at the moment of their first, and last, kiss. Their love's demise is certain at the very instant of its presumably spectacular consummation.
